A couple more thoughts looking ahead to the fall midterm election on Nov. 3:

➥Three Modesto City Council seats will be up for a vote, and all three incumbents have launched reelection campaigns:

  • District 2 – Downtown, west Modesto and south Modesto. Incumbent: Eric Alvarez
  • District 4 – East central Modesto. Incumbent: Nick Bavaro
  • District 5 – North central Modesto. Incumbent: Jeremiah Williams

We’ll see who runs against them. The candidate filing period is July 13 through Aug. 7.

➥The Turlock mayor’s seat will be on the November ballot as well.

Amy Bublak, first elected mayor in 2018, will seek reelection. Announced challengers so far are Kelley Coelho and Jim Reape. We’ll have more on this in the weeks and months ahead, as it’s already shaping up to be one heck of a battle.

➥Hughson politics might not attract widespread attention under normal circumstances, but a three-member council majority just censored Mayor George Carr for unwanted physical contact toward Councilwoman Susana Vasquez. So we’re likely to keep an eye on the November race for mayor in Hughson as well.
